Four Good Reasons To Use The Disney Transportation System

One of the advantages to staying at one of the more than 25 Disney-owned hotels in the Walt Disney World complex outside of Orlando is that residents at select hotels can use the extensive Disney transportation system at no additional charge. This system of buses, mono-rails and boats connects all of the on-site hotels to the four major theme parks as well as Disney attractions like Downtown Disney and the Disney water parks. The transportation system operates daily, beginning one hour prior to the park's opening and ending one hour after closing.

There are Disney hotels in all price ranges as well as an RV park and a cottage complex. Other perks of staying at an on-site Disney hotel include early admission to selected parks, opportunities to interact with the Disney characters and being able to reserve selected Disney activities in advance.

Benefits of the Disney transportation system

1. Saving on parking. Parking at Disney can get expensive. Daily parking passes at Walt Disney World (which allow parking at any or all of the Disney theme parks) are currently $17 per car. Since parking at the hotels is free (and most distances from the hotels to the park are too great to walk), you can save a significant amount by taking the transportation system.

2. They drop you off at the gate. When you take the Disney buses, you don't have to worry about trekking from the parking lot to the park's main entrance. The buses drop you off right in front of the gate.

3. You don't need a map. The winding roads in the Walt Disney World complex can get confusing if you're behind the wheel. Sometimes you can see the EPCOT or Magic Kingdom landmarks in the distance, but not be able to figure out how to get there by car. When you take the Disney transportation system, you don't have to worry about finding your way.

4. You can concentrate on the sights. The landscaped grounds at Walt Disney World are a sight all by themselves. When you let Disney personnel drive you to the park, you can marvel at the "hidden Mickeys" in the garden or catch a glimpse of Cinderella's Castle in the distance.

While staying at an on-site hotel at Walt Disney World isn't the right choice for every family, being able to take advantage of the Disney transportation system for free is a big benefit of choosing one of these hotels. If you decide this choice isn't for you, consider driving on your own or using a charter like Ebmeyer Charter and Tour
